So in order-if the lotuses did dip for Moonshadow form-Ethari and the others would see: Runaan’s sink, Rayla’s sink. So if the flower doesn’t rise by dawn, it sinks. The elves can’t hold their full Moonshadow form anymore, no matter how strong they are. If the flowers never rise, but the sun does? Then the full moon night is over and the moon is down. Wait long enough and no answer becomes the answer. There are always uncertainties and unexpected things along the way. If they did dip under the water, waiting would be pretty nervewracking, even if it’s a routine mission that everyone is prepped for. If they can see that risk with their own two eyes, and the uncertainty-the real moment they cling to-is whether it will rise again. I’m just picturing friends and family standing around the pool on a mission night and maybe expecting to see the lotuses dip, but only for a short while. Is that the same dimension of the moon that the Moon Nexus leads to? Or are there more than one? Or do the elves not slip into it far enough to affect their lotus? My husband is having surgery at this very moment, so I was picturing his lotus halfway sunk, and it got me wondering as a nice distraction: since Moonshadow elves slip partway into a dimension of the moon when they enter their full Moonshadow form, would their lotuses dip in Ethari’s pool just from doing that?
